How do setup an online server so you can play people across the world?

I'm glad this came up again, it gives me a better chance to work up a good thread on exactly how to configure this. First step, run the server, then hit this address in your browser:

http://127.0.0.1:11801/?password=dim3

Cut and paste the top part (the part that talks about the IP address) into a reply message. Then click the "shutdown" link to stop the server.

It takes so long to load. Is that normal?

No, that might be a bug. Do you get a log (there should be a log folder in the data folder.) I might have busted this, let me check.

I don't think its a bug.
If you don't forward the correct port, it will load for a long time (about 2-5 minutes) and then display a "connection failed" message or something like that. My server works perfectly. Smile
Great it loaded! is it online for people to play on if I keep that running?

btw: how can I setup 5 servers that use different maps for different servers
By making 5 different data folders, each in its own parent folder and each with its own server app. Change the ports each one goes to in './Settings/Network.xml' and then make sure the ports are open or forwarded. Launch all 5 apps. Create a new browser window. Open 4 more tabs in it. There should be 5 tabs in the window. In each tab type the address to each of the servers. Voila.

(i.e. 'http://localhost:11801/?password=dim3')
But if I have only 1 server going can people across the world play it?
yeah, if it's external. Can people outside your house reach it?
I haven't tested it yet.

Would wireless work because sometimes other online games that I play have trouble networking because I'm using a wireless network?
