I used smooth on my assualt rifle(I had to to get a specific shape) once and disolve and bridge 2 times each and I just had to uv map and I did
ccccc: It's all about technique and smooth can be good and bad. By ruling it out of the question, you're prone to some serious argument, so I suggest you keep your opinion open or keep it to yourself.
I used smooth on my Xseo Tauri (vehicle thing for Quarterblood).

I agree with teh1ghool, it can be good or bad. Depends on how you use it.

Screenshots of the Tauri soon.
Once someone is sufficiently skilled in modeling, smooth is just another tool, to be used one way or another. (especially once they've learned to use hard edges correctly). Its just that often new modelers will try to use it to get out of going through a hand smoothing process, which leads to slightly ugly, slightly deformed models. I remember doing that a couple times.
I smoothed a cube once to get a type of diamond shape (only 20 polys)
bty i can only use maya for .mov's so I use wings for .obj's
As the boards are being moved, I'm trying to reduce some crust; I'd like to clean up this thread, anybody have a problem with removing some of the comments and leaving the models?

I tried to pick out a couple off-topics, but it's hard to pull apart the general stream of things going on here.
