Is there anything cheaper than snapz? I'm paying like $200 already for some video stuff and can't afford snapz after that . I can't find anything (don't know what to search for).

I use Snapz for recording and Final Cut for editing. Buy Snapz. It's great.
(I suggest that we move this discussion to IRC because I don't want to spam in the TarMac thread. )

I hooked up an Elgato EyeTV to my S-video output with an s-video to av cable.
