I tried to import an OBJ with a scale of 350, and it says the mesh has too many materials when it really only has 3.

So does scaling it up increase the numba of segments?
No.
The problem is that you have more than 3 materials.
If you asign one material to an object, and the same material to a different object, it's 2 materials.
Try baking the texture in Blender or Cinema 4D.
If you can, for models, you should try to keep it to one texture. It's certainly much easier to model with multiple textures, but a single texture is also a lot faster (and takes up less space as uv wrapped textures usually have lots of blank space.)
