How do I apply textures to models in wings, then uv map it, keeping the txtures on it. Like the wood sniper rifle at dim3 Ales (files). Because I can make textures but I have trouble with putting textures on models.
Open the model/click on the model/select_UV_Direct/click in the new window and select "create texture" 3 times. <create texture><create texture><create texture>/ then go to "window/outliner. it should show a small window in the upper right of the Wings window.

Okay, you have the UV up and the outliner so now you want to import the texture.
File/Import Image. select texture. The texture will appear in the outliner window, drag it into UV map box, now if it is showing on the model but not
in the UV box then go to the UV box and select View/show/hide background images. Then you can move UV map around to fit the texture.
I hope this is helpful!
Or you UV map first, export it, and then paint the texture onto the UV map. You can in fact use the band aid tool in photoshop to paint textures into specific areas. Smile
You select the model that you want to texture, right click, uv-mapping, direct, right click inside the new window, segiment by, projection, right click again, continue, projection texture.

For some reason, the only way I know to import an images to import it as a plane (main window right click, import image plane).

Once you have the image you can select the model that you just mapped (it has a checkered alphabet texture), right click, uv mapping, direct, right click new window, create texture.

On the tab, where it says draw edges, change it to none. Where it says background, click the options button next to it. Select "image" and make sure that it is the image that you imported. You can then click "ok".

After that you can go back to the main window, select each face individually, right click, uv mapping, direct, and move them wherever you want. This is what I do.

In wings you cannot add a texture until you uv map.
Thats pretty much it Chainfist but you are supposed to use Import Image not Import image plan.
Doesn't work for me Sad
If you choose "vertex colour", and choose what you want, then you can mark the existing colour on to your model. good for basic textures, but then it's handyness stops.
I would also suggest looking into the Snap Image tool if the model is not too complex. It can make whipping out a textured model really quick. Hit the Wings forums for more info about it.
