I can get the files into the program itself, but when I try to run them, the application "unexpectedly quits"

What do you mean like that? Did you put the files in the data folder in the folder with the project?

It should be so simple as:
1) Get new version
2) Rename demo data folder to something like "Data - Demo". Do NOT use "Data2" for reasons explained below
3) Put in your old data folder where the demo data folder was
The applications will read from these places, in this order:
* data2
* data
* data inside application
So if you are missing some newer files, sometimes it's easier to leave the original demo data folder, and name yours Data2. Yours will take precedence, but any missing files will be grabbed out of my demo folder.
