Smile I've been working with a great modeling called Blender. You may have heard of it. Its open source and easy to use. The only thing I didn't find really cool is the texturing. Check out this link below to Blenders website.

Thanks for the link. I use Blender exclusively for 3D modeling. Actually, probably everyone here has tried it, or uses it.
I use and love Blender. Been using it since version 1.5. And back then it sucked in several respects. (the UV mapping was severely lacking) The current version, 2.45, is all different kinds of awesome. For the kind of low-poly modeling that you would likely do for Dim 3, Blender is near-perfect.

If you want a more intensive program, the latest version of the XSI Mod Tool is much improved over the last version. The last version was too much like the full XSI package, and more than a little confusing. The new version has been optimized heavily for low-poly modeling, and is much less overwhelming. They also provide a lot of really good video tutorials. There are other improvements as well, but I won't go into them just now. If you want to get your hands dirty with an industry-standard package, the XSI Mod Tool is probably the way to go.

I've tried out Wings3D in the past, as well. It's one of the better options for modelers who like to extrude. It's most effective workflow is based on extrusions and subdividing. I'm not sure how good it is at UV mapping, though. Blender's current UV mapping tools make the process cake.
I don't really know how to use it! Is it really that good?
Yes. It most certainly is.
It's not as good as Lightwave but its still probably nearly the best free one on the net.
Ignore the complex UI and just model some things. Figure out the UI later!
