If you've played any of the Escape Velocity games from Ambrosia, you may remember Escape Velocity Override, the second of three EV games. There was a portion of space in that game that was home to a bunch of pirates called 'Renegades'. Who had a few planets and stations of their own and delighted in destroying your ship whenever you ran across them. If you just started out the last thing you would want to see would be this, the Turncoat. A ship designed for pirates by pirates. Most players hated it, first because it would destroy them when they first started out, and later becuase it's the worst capital ship you can buy, easily defeated by any other warship. But I've always loved it. It looks so sleek despite how slow it is in the game, and I find its ugliness, beautifull. The guy who modeled the ships for EVO said himself it was one of his favorites, and he always thought it was a shame it played such a lousy role. EV has always been a sprite based game with renders used to display ships, and the graphics were so small you could never get a good look at the ship to model it. But lately I ran across a plugin which vastly updates the graphics. Using the new, larger and sharper images I was able to reconstruct the old Turncoat light frigate. This also goes to show I can model something besides guns. Wink

I took the liberty of adding the turrets, which weren't in any of the originional sprites or pictures, but I thought they belonged. I don't really have a use for a starship in any of my projects. But if Teh1ghool is still doing EV:3D or whatever he had to change the name to, I'd just love to see this ship back in action, preferably with a better role. Smile

I LOVED that ship. Very nice model. Needs a texture though. A detailed one. Not like the ones in EV:O.

@dimwit: Well, I am a Naruto fan, so its easy to tell who Bink has as his avi. Its Neji Hyuga.
As for Imon, I think its just a "404 Error - Not Found" anime picture.
They aren't intakes, they're weapon and fighter bays. Least that's how they were potrayed in the origional.

I'm still trying to decide on some modifications to make the ship more detailed and realistic, without ruining its sleek shape. Maybe some port holes and hatches, those won't affect the overall look. Beyond that it's not easy. Adding too many details will, as I said, ruin the look. Something I'm considering would be to build a whole 3d bridge under the bubble canopys. Also maybe adding more detail to the intakes/missile and fighter bays. But if I did that I'd have to model weapons and fighters, which if I were going to donate this ship to a game, would have to be replaced anyway.

You should keep the smooth body as is, but maybe add more detailing to the wings or 'eyes'. And maybe change those 'teeth' on the side a bit, they don't really look good.

It's funny, I first found Dim3 with an idea in my head of an FPS in the EVO universe :P
