I've got a lot of questions right now on modeling. The reason is, I'm creating my first human model. I'm making a game that will mostly deal with close combat, so I know that I should model the arms, and legs separate from the torso, but should the head be detached too? And I was wondering if it would be a good idea to model the eyes as a sphere instead of being textured into the head, so I could move them around. About hair, should I animate that too? Like if the character is falling and his/her hair drags behind. I'm also wondering if you can import maps and if its a good idea to do it. I'm wanting to get the best out of my work, but I don't want to go overboard, especially since I haven't done much with dim3.

you can create hair very simple. with PNG-24 transparent textures or an alphamap and some separate polygons.
(alphamap = greyscale-pic, darker parts will be transparent.)

eyes as spheres are nice if you want to animate them. (im not that pro in animating)

a lot of your questions are relative - thats a matter of opinion.
Thanx Imon, oh and, by the way, your avatar is gone. Rolleyes
Does anyone else care to awnser my questions? ....please?

I recommend making practice models before making anything final Wink.

Depends, if s/he is wearing a normal shirt then do model the shirt and detach the head to make it look as if the shirt is really on top of the body and not part of it.

In my opinion, not worth it. Unless your REALLY going to move the eyes. Normally for ingame models you don't need to model the eyes as spheres.

If the character has long hair, of course! If the hair is textured onto the head then no Wink.

Depends on the map, since dim3 currently only supports walls that are straight up and down (soon to be changed), be carefull what you model Wink. Heightmaps are also good for landscapes Wink.
Wait for the maps. Brian will probably have the new system out pretty soon.
Alright, i've got up to modeling the arm. I'm not sure if I should make it as sort of a ball-and-socket thing, and if I'm supposed to, am I doing it right? Modeled with Wings. And please also C & C (Critique and Comment) on my work so far. Thanx ^^

Hey, that's pretty good. Smile

Keep it up.
Thanx Durandalski ^^
Thats a great start!
Critiques:
* The back is too bowed. make it straighter or more relaxed looking. This depends on who it is going to be.
* Bring down the crotch and make the hips less wide. This is a guy right?
* It looks rather bow legged to me. Cowboy? =P
* It's pant's legs don't seem to come down far enough. They should probably reach his shoes.

Good work!

You mean bring the shoulders foward? He is going to be in his mid teens, so I guess he should look more relaxed than an adult.

The shirt is covering up most of his pants, and when you say the hips are to big, are you talking about the part where his shirt comes into place? I made it a bit bigger because he is also wearing a vest over it, but I think I came up with a better way to make it look better and more realistic.

Yah, I was sorta thinking the same thing, but thats how the tutorial ccccc posted, so I was just gonna go with it.

The reason his pants stop so high up is because he has wrappings over the bottom part of the pants.

Thanx for the suggestions and comments, but what I really need most right now is about the arm situation. Thanx ^^
