Game idea number 667:
I think this is a vast improvement, and have already begun working on it, but tell me what you think anyway.
The Story: In the twenty-second century, mankind has colonized the solar system and quite a bit more besides. Interstellar travel is an everyday occurence. Life is good.
Unfortunately, an exploratory/research ship on a mission to map Alpha Centauri is attacked by giant alien bloodthirsty insects from outer space! This species, later dubbed the Metahive, driven by an ancient, voracious hunger, finds its way into the solar system. Eventually, the humans drove the Metahive out of the solar system and into quarantine, but once in a blue moon, the Metahive finds a way off the station it is confined to, and goodness help those who are in their way...
So that's where you come in. You, the player, plays an exterminator, a specialized government role, with the mission of knocking the dust out of any members of the hive that come the humans' way and getting big bucks for it. And so the hunt begins.
Gameplay: This game will mostly be a standard first-person shooter. I intend to have a training level and afterwards 12 stations to conquer, one for each planet plus the dwarf planets and the Moon, with each progressively harder than the last. The levels will mainly be dark and dreary, and the player will be forced to battle in low light conditions and quite possibly harmful environments. (i.e. ever tried battling in a hydroponics lab? Well, soon you will!)
Metahive Appearance: Bizarre crosses between different elements of Earth insects, but standing taller than a man and with spikes, acidic spittle, glowy yellow eyes and a translucent blood-red carapace.
Finalized Weapons:
Assault Rifle: Yes, every game has one of these, and Infestation is no exception. It works well in semi-auto and short bursts, and going full auto, while relatively inaccurate and ammo draining, is a force to be reckoned with. This is an extremely high-powered type of assault rifle, loaded with armor-piercing rounds, to penetrate the hardened carapace of the Metahive. The rifle has medium range, a simple scope, powerful rounds and ok accuracy, and will probably be your staple weapon for the game. Ammunition is easy to find, and the assault rifle is the best weapon at short to medium range. Also equipped with a flashlight.
Chainsaw: The last-resort emergency weapon for the game, for when you're totally surrounded and out of ammo for your more powerful weapons. The chainsaw is relatively lightweight and extremely powerful, killing most enemies in a single swipe, but it has a ridiculously high recovery time (to get the clumsy thing under control) and melee range. Definitely not recommended for normal combat.
Flamethrower: Guess what this does? The flamethrower is an incredibly potent weapon against the swarm-tactics Metahive (imagine what a rapid-fire grenade launcher would be like against humans and you get the drift). This weapon is extremely versatile and can be used between medium and long ranges. It acts pretty much like a squirt gun on steroids, and even the fuel tanks you can carry last only enough for about three seconds of constant flame. (Oh, and try not to get hit on your back in any way when you haven't emptied your tank!)
Plasmac: The plasma accelerator, or plasmac for short, is a relatively futuristic kind of weapon which is rather effective on grouped targets. Basically, the pistol-sized weapon fires glowing green globules of plasma, which not only cause severe burns on anything they hit, but also deal splash damage on impact and the plasma's residue sticks to affected enemies, dealing them damage before dissipating. Obviously, the plasmac is not a very good idea to use at short range, but it works wonders at medium to long range, and this weapon does not use ammunition! However, obviously, if fired too many times in quick succession, the weapon will overheat and become temporarily impossible to use.
Grenades: Run-of-the-mill fragmentation grenades. They act almost exactly like the dim3 grenades, just with slightly modified parameters, a different model, and unusually large explosions. What did you expect?
More to come.
That's about it. What do you think?

Thumbs up! Will there be any multiplayer?
