Full Version: how to set custom network ports?

Hi guys,

I'm sure this has already been answered somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. So, how do you edit the Network.xml file in the Settings folder to set custom ports for the v2.2 server? I'm getting tired of not being able to make online games work b/c the folks testing it haven't got a clue how to set up port forwarding. So instead I want to use the 2302 and 2303 ports used by Halo PC; since those aren't blocked by the folks I'm testing with, they would be usable.

Thanks!

EDIT: quick question, brian: does Dim3 networking connect through TCP/IP or UDP? because I've noticed that UDP is blocked less often by most routers.
Can't you change the ports when you add a server? (go to setup>network settings in-game then add a server and change the ports....

You can change the client ports, yes, but as I understand it the dedicated server will still be using 11800 & 11801. Generally, if the client is trying the wrong port on the server, things tend to not work out.

Yes, in the newer versions the ports -- like most games -- won't be settable. The reason is it's just a lot easier to debug people's problems.
