Hey, I am new and looking into using Dim3, but haven't been able to find any plain and basic tutorials on the overall usage of Dim3 and all its aspects. Can anyone direct me to such a tutorial? Smile
There's no "full" tutorial. Most people here learn by teaching themselves.
What exactly do you want to know? You could ask here or try searching on the forum.
Well, I don't know exactly. My intentions are to make a third-person zombie shooter. ^_^
Well... I can't really tell you how to make a 3rd person shooter, because it's a complex thing to do and can't be explained in a single post. I'd have to write a book about that. Smile
However, there are a few things you might want to check:
1. Can you do 3D modeling yourself or do you need an artist?
2. What about texturing?
3. Try to become familiar with scripts in Dim3 to find out how they work.
4. Make a list of all the models/sounds/textures/scripts you need for the game before you start.
5. Also write down the story/certain details about your game.
6. Make sure to plan everything before you start. It might be good to buy a book about game design.

That's all I can think of for now. There's probably more. Making games isn't easy. :/
The most usefull tutorials around now for newbies is ccccc's scripting tut. Its really helped me learn to script. But if you want to use the editor then stuffing around is my opinion for what you need to do. Good luck with the zombies!
Is anyone working on a complete documentation / tutorial?

I was working on one, but gave up because I don't have the time.
Bink, may I suggest that you post your efforts online? A detailed tutorial written by one person is indeed a time consuming task - perhaps with the help of the community everyone can chip in to get it complete? Some sort of wiki approach may render the best results - when someone from the community feels inspired they can write / amend part of the documentation with someone (Brian?) being the moderator who compiles all the material.
I didn't really start. Wrote an index page and then stopped when I saw how much it was.
A wiki might be a good idea... anybody here who can host one?
Now that's the best idea yet. A dim3 wiki would be a huge asset. A user edited encyclopedia that anybody could add a few sentances to when they had the time. Much better than one person doing the massive amount of work it would take to explain how to use dim3 'in a nutshell'. Wink

As Bink said though, the problem is finding a host.
