Making transparent PNGs with Gimp
A short tutorial for beginners by Imon.
All you need is the free image manipulation program Gimp.
My version of Gimp is unfortunately a german version but you will get it right anyhow. (:
• First,
you need the image you want to have transparency.
I've made an example texture for you.
You can use it to try the few steps by yourself.
Click here for additional help about bit-maps.
Download the example image by clicking here.
• Secondly,
start the free image manipulation program Gimp and open the example PNG.
It's called Tut1.png.

If you can't see the image then click here.
• Thirdly,
go to Layer in the menu bar and select Transparency > Add Alpha Channel.

If you can't see the image then click here.
• Fourthly,
choose the Wand tool and click on the white area to select it.
(You can select every plain-coloured area whith the Wand tool.)

If you can't see the image then click here.
• Fifthly,
choose Edit > Cut.

If you can't see the image then click here.
• You did it!
All you need to use it in Dim3 is saving it with the right suffix.
Save Image As PNG image.
Two more tipps:
• You can select Grow Selection to prevent from white edges.
• You can select areas manually with the Lasso tool.
I hope you liked it,
