It's been forever since I've been on the Forums. I'm still working on my game, But anyway What do you guys think of the real time CG for Killzone 2. If you haven't seen it watch it. In my opinion it beats out Crysis, but thats just my opinion.
Yeah, i really love Killzone.
Nice thread btw.
Yes it looks great. It remains to be seen just how fun the gameplay is, but hopefully it will be very good. What from what I've seen though, I don't think it out does Crysis at all. Crysis has such incredibly good looking forest, trees, lighting, physics, effects, particles (fire!) that it really kicks the rears of pretty much every game I've seen.
Not to say that Killzone 2 isn't a good looking game, it is, but it also doesn't have any normal mapping that I can see, and the textures are unfortunately, washed out in some areas, such as on the character models. Weapons look fantastic though!

Also, keep in mind that like Gears of War, it is a "mud" game, and so will usually immediately look better than a lot of other games. Lookup "mud" games on google.

Some nice pics of the game, to enhance the thread:

About the lack of normal mapping though, I think the ultra high poly look will hopefully compensate well enough. It sure looks good!
Better than Crysis, imho. I hate the setting in Crysis (Forest, Sunlight, THE OUTSIDE WORLD).

Haha, Cryek seems to be pretty caught up in forests and trees and things. I do like the gritty look of Killzone.
I played the first level of Crysis at my friend's house. It's an awsome game. You'd be wrong about the sunny setting btw. Crysis runs in real time, there's no set time for sections of the game to occur. If you take a long time with one objective, the sun will go down and you'll be doing the next one in the dark. The game starts with a paradrop at night. Let me tell ya, when we found a member of the team hung up in a tree with his chest cavity ripped open, and a squad of ripped up dead korean troops around, it was pretty darn spooky. No need for a gritty urban or futuristic setting. The 'pretty' jungle seemed awfully dangerous all of a sudden.
I spent so much time exploring that by the time I reached the next objective the sun had risen and it was early morning. The graphics are simply incredible. It's also amazing how the game feels so realistic, when you're wearing some kind of futuristic nanosuit that looks like a muscular wetsuit. Lets face it, Halo feels like a game. Crysis doesn't imo.

Don't forget that there are indoor sections in Crysis that look a lot like those killzone pics, not to mention the frozen jungle. I almost wish I had a winblows computer, just to play that game.
You don't needs a PC to play Crysis. The MacBook Pro 2.4ghz and the Mac Pro lines can run it. Especially if you invest in an 8800GT Graphics Card. Barefeats.com has a benchmark on Mac Pro gaming, which really shows the power of the MP and the 8800. Also, the 2.8ghz quad is just as powerful for 3D gaming as the 8-core 3.0ghz. Crysis can't use more then 4 cores, and really goes fine with 2.

Now all you need is about $2500. :P
Hmm.... mud game... eh... Somehow I don't think your talking about a multi-user-dungeon. And thats all that came up. So whats it mean?

Oh sorry, it's a rather uncommon term. A "mud" game is a game where the graphics consist largely of very low saturation colors and lots of gray, brown and black. Gears of War is an excellent example of this, and Killzone 2 appears to do this as well. The low saturation combined with lots of gray and brown and black makes for a smooth and very good looking, but not extremely colorful game.
Thats probably why Halo feels like a game, because its got every color you can think of. Is there any way you could do this in dim3?
