Any idea offhand the control scheme to get things going? Im imagining that most people would juet be using their arrows and a few keyboard buttons?

How are we going to implement kicking and stuff in particular directions?

Who said 256x256? Considering the scale NetHack plays at, I'd say even 64x64 would work.

Simple. I suggest the NetHack controls. The player would not be a player but a bot controlled by the player object, if you get my meaning. When the player presses 'k', the game would prompt for a direction, and he'd press one of the numpad keys.

Thud!
You hear a muffled shatter.
The box polymorphs into a bag of holding!
Wait! There's a bag of tricks inside the bag of holding!
BOOM!
There is a magical explosion!
You are caught in the blast!
You die...
Would you like your possessions identified? [y/n] (n)

this still doesnt mean we cant do it, cause alot of games are based on D&D.
1.make shure not to completey copy off of a D&D based game ( we can, but if we create a 3D version of nethack, It would copy off the 3d version they have now, and we might get sued)
2.Forget about step number one; we could create an "Avanced version" of it.
3. why did i write step number 3.????
Wink
That site is not part of a big company.
iow: You won't get sued unless you actually copy their game files and sell them.

(don't sue me if I'm wrong though. >.<Wink
Hm... that version uses 3d models of the letters as its monsters. Thats kinda weak.

They could have used sprites at least like the old Might and Magic games did.

Of course with a higher resolution...
Yay for 2D. That 3D nethack is horrible, all in japanese, and has jittering problems.
