I've been thinking about the expectations many of you have in regard to Infested. My goal with Infested is to make it the best looking dim3 game ever made, and my other projects will look even better. However, the Marathon style often does not lend itself to a lot of texture detail, and it's been pretty hard for me to figure out just what sort of quality I can compromise with.

What I request from you dimmers, is two things. First, I would like some examples of the kind of graphics you'd like to see (no joke pictures of Crysis please Smile ) this can be anything, just tell me what you like about X game's graphics, what would make a good impression to you, and anything else you'd like to add. Any inspiration would be extremely helpful.

Second, tell me what you would NOT like to see in Infested, graphics-wise. Please give me any information you have about what graphical look is the least pleasing to you. I assure you, any images or information you contribute will be helpful to me.

Thank you!

Final Note: I know Infested is taking forever, and I know I've promised a million things, and have not followed through with them, but Marathon is hard to replicate. UTB was finished in 30 days, Marathon Infested is not so easy, I guarantee, any other projects I make after Infested will be my ideas and will be MUCH faster.

And that's the minimum. If it will look worse than that, it's not worth the wait.
It needs:
1. Awesome explosions
2. Outdoor maps with a lot of detail (vegetation etc.)
3. High quality player and enemy models and textures
It absolultely should not...
1. ...look like it's based on the Unreal 1 engine
2. ...not run on my computer at less than 60FPS

setting the bar petty high there with quake 2 Smile
lol. I love Quake 2. Mafoo, I thought you might show a picture of your box, as graphical expectations. Wink

PEOPLE, I NEED SOME MORE EXAMPLES HERE!!!
If you can make something that looks as good as Tremulous, that makes my day. Trem achieves a great atmosphere and gives the impression of extreme graphics detail, using fairly simple and non graphics intensive material. The textures are not super high rez, but they look awsome. The maps are not super detailed, but they're highly immersive and atmospheric, and the models are not high poly, but do the job very well. I wouldn't try for anything more or you'll take years...
I liked the Doom 3 level design artwork.

/ Added Quake 4 character.

I've never played Tremulous, but googled it after Durandalski mentioned it.

I really like the look of that map and the textures. As for the character models, they are very nice but you don't need them to be that detailed if you don't want.

Something like this maybe:

lol jk. :P
Thanks for the feedback guys. If anyone else has any more things to add, I'd appreciate every bit.

Don't forget that the game is STILL going to look like Marathon, however the graphical quality of course, is separate from the art style.
Do you have an estimation of how long until the first chapter will be done?
(50 years? 100 years?)
[EDIT]btw, you never update your blog. :P
