Ok. I just tested VIP on one of the other guys Windows PC. It worked quite well, but we found one bug.
Whenever you try to enable MipMapping or Anisotropic Filtering, the game crashes. He has 1.48ghz system, with 512mb of RAM. (Could that be it?) His graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, so I don't think thats the problem. It worked fine on my winhell machine, but mine has 1gb of RAM. I've also noticed it runs a hell lot slower on windows.
Probably because on Windows, there's an infinite number of hardware configurations to support. I reckon Brian sacrificed some speed for compatibility. The sysreqs are dependent on your game complexity. If your bitmaps are too large and numerous, your gpu will be using ordinary RAM as well as VRAM, and it gets worse as virtual memory gets enabled. The fact that it runs faster on Macs is, I think, because Apple designs its OS specifically for their own computers, so they can take full advantage of the available hardware. That, my friend, is why Mac OSX is more reliable, faster, and, in short, just better than Windows.
Well, we had an older alpha of the game on his system, opened that up, and the anisotropic settings and mipmapping worked fine. Both of the alphas were running on 2.2, so it couldn't be the release.
