God bless you all.
Well, I believe that the Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory engine is free for modding.

look here. http://www.planetwolfenstein.com

If you have 100 dollars there are also the Torque and Unity engines. I'm afraid those aren't exactly free, they cost 100 dollars for the full indie license.

I'm really not at all experienced with windows programs, so I'm afraid I can't recomend much.

good luck!
my reply: buy a mac

even if youre not using dim3: buy a mac

the only reason people use windows is 'cause they don't wanna pay for a mac: buy a mac

macs rule over pc's, if you want to program (or use the computer alot any other way: buy a mac

Wink

i am somewhat experienced with windows (my school doesn't want to spend money on macs :P) programs (ther's not much to be experienced with :P) and i truthfully think that developing on a pc will be much harder, the operating system is just really; plain; bad.
Dispite the fact that some of the best game development tools work best on and mostly ONLY on PCs... :sneaky:

ccccc: I think you and the rest need to stop bashing PCs, I've used them before and found them comfortable to use, and really quite simple. I'm disapointed that I can't get PC price and power for Macs, but Apple's prices are bloated, and you never seem to get what you pay for.

Gamemakerdream: I'd have to know what kind of experiance you have first. It all depends on your current knowledge, somes engines have a steep learning curve that might be to much for you, but others have a much easier learning curve, I really can't say.
Alex just wait until you actually start using them, instead of just touching the surface. It's torture in comparison. Wink
You'd probably flip your lid the first time you have to re-format your harddrive.

I have little experience with PC's, but most of it is negitive. They do the same things as a mac, but it's more difficult and the interface is ugly as sin.
Same here. And the hardware is ugly too. Windows sucks if it comes to everyday use. I just get depressed even of looking at them. If it comes to gaming, however, I'd prefer windows, but that's just because most games don't exist for Mac.
I agree.
Most of my friends are PC Users and we have got PCs at school.
Now we are working on a game at school and we had to start it over 3 times.
Why? Because someone had to reformat his harddrive and everything was gone.
I was talking to someone from my school a few weeks ago and told him I had a Mac, and he asked: "Whats a Mac?". I hit him in the face.
Its not like I hate PCs, I just dont like them. :annoyed:
i'm sorrty, and i know most good game engines are on pcs, but it still makes everything harder.

i don't mean to be annoying, i just don't like pcs cause everything to confusing/tey don't have a good help system.
i just would rather use a mac because you don't need to buy all these other applications, it comes with about 50, you don't need to be an expert at computers, i mean, its just plain easier.

i just recommend that if you're going to make anything on a computer, and you don't have much experience, mac is the way to go Wink.
and it IS true that most people that buy pc's buy them because they don't want to pay for macs.
gamemakerdreamer: just buy a mac, you can get one for 500$

I have also a bad experience with pc's. At school we learn visual basic (boring, so simple) but its a pain to work with it's just not user friendly. And when I get home and use Real Basic its just relax...
And from what I hear its like that with most of the developing software on windows.

And above that the mac community is much more n00b-friendly (look at this forum for example).
