Hi to all,
I have this game that is built for PC (think of it as an FPS) and it uses a lot of DirectX commands.... the obvious questions...
1) what can I do to run it on OS X ?
2) Does it worth to think about OS9 ?
3) I am a noob in game programming... can soembody tell me that it's not hard to convert from PC to Mac ? Is there any dream app that just "does" the job for you ? :D
Thanks in advance.

1) Find someone willing to spend a lot of time and resources porting it.
2) No.
3) No, and no. :)

There is this, but it costs:
MacDX (http://www.coderus.com/)

So to my understanding you want a game to be ported to mac... not created by you...
My thought is it's a game you really like and can't play because you don't have a windows anymore or your windows buddy dug to china.
Also, because this is your first post I would suggest posting because this thread will become junk if you don't... ;)
Next off...
If you create the game yourself...
I am a noob in game programming...
So I bet somebody could port it if it was yours...
I would be willing to port it if ppl didn't mind my radical views on Jaguar support :-P
(and I wasn't converting a memory managing system to a container at this moment)

Ericuss, can you give us a link to your game, so we can see the screenshots or try it out on a PC?

I think WINE implements an awful lot of DirectX in OpenGL, so quite a lot of the required knowledge is out there and freely available... but I suspect ripping the code out of WINE and turning it into something like MacDX would be, uh, non-trivial :-).

There's a mac version of wine known as Darwine, which lets Direct X developers recompile their code for Mac OS X, if it works for wine in linux that is.

What if he wants it ported to the Mac simply because he likes the Mac? That's reason enough for me. I play games on the Mac but that's not because I can't get a PC.
