I was thinking of doing a second entry, and I want to figure out which arcade game I'd like to make.
If you have any other suggestions, I'd gladly hear them. But they must be arcade-y. And action-y.

Well, what is your first entry? Maybe you should diversify.

My first entry has not yet been publicly disclosed. Don't worry about it.

What can you do in less than a week?

You can really make a good, well structured game in LESS THAN A WEEK?
My advice is to think about your timeframe first, and then figure out a game you can make in that period.

P.S. You could make maCS...or a Halo 3

My history of quick games:
1. 3-week game: got 3rd, won a sweatshirt. I wore the sweatshirt yesterday.
2. 24-hour game: I don't remember, but it got 3rd or better. It wasn't an "official" contest.
3. 4-hour Space Invaders clone: Yeah, like 1 other person entered. But the game had no bugs and had all features of Space Invader sans those little block things.
4. 3-day game: My first uDG entry 3 years ago which sucked
5. 6-day game: 3rd (long time ago; became Canvas Wars)
In other words, it's not a question of if, it's a question of what.

Things I could do in less than a week:
-Vertical scroller
-Clone of almost any retro arcade game (Galaga, Asteroids, Omega Race, Centipede, Snake)
The criteria for a game that can be made in less than a week:
1. Little AI
2. Little effort for level creation (ie: a platformer wouldn't be good because you have to make all the levels)
3. Few graphics needed
Arcade/action games are perfect for this. Vertical scrollers or Galaga clones require only a background or three, maybe ten enemy types, a player ship, maybe 10 shot types, and a very simple level format

Ok take that wizbang game, remove the jumping, make it 8 directional movement, make space bar super bomb, make it free scrolling, and vectorized, change the whizbang balls to robots, tanks, energy fields and rocket launchers.
Done.

make a scrolling motocross game, like that old nes game, make it super old school and seriously pixelated... and add insane flip combos and loop-d-loops

-Clone of almost any retro arcade game (Galaga, Asteroids, Omega Race, Centipede, Snake)
Remember that one of the final voting criteria is originality so doing a cover version of an old game should lose marks unless you add a very original twist.

You couldn't make a decent vertical scroller in a week.
:p

I've moved this thread out of Work In Progress as it was not actually a Work In Progress.
