I, too, feel the need to have as empty of a desktop as possible. I only have things there that are of any urgency. Being that school is over in a week and a half and I still have 8 unfinished assignments for my Java class, that made the cut :). I also always have iTunes available in one form or another.

How did you make Adium look not-hideous?

My desktop, until very recently, looked like an explosion of icons. Because things get created at the top right corner and I have to move them to see things underneath, there was a large concentration of icons around there getting less and less dense as it reached the otuer edges of my screen.

I never seem to be able to find cool desktops, so it's usually my latest attempt at something to do with CGI so that I look at it and think, "Gah! That's ugly - must improve."

My computer is on 24 / 7 so I only get the empty screen of startup after an update or a very rare power cut.

I've no problem with people having stuff on their desktops, I just asked the question as it is always interesting to hear how people use their computers in a completely different way to one's own use.

Top part is the custom boot screen I made (replacing Aqua Blue) from an anime pic. The machine's name is nadia. The bottom shows both monitors.

The two pictures on the bottom are from the Deviant Art catalog of "garun" (look it up, she's awesome). I wrote up a script a long time ago that takes a random background, scales it as large as it can on the biggest axis, composites it with a Propaganda tile, and then displays it. I used to have it switch periodically but got to where I liked these backgrounds a lot, and quit doing so. :) The silly thing has followed me around from Linux to Win32/Cygwin to OSX now. One of these days I need to actually release it.

With 1680x1050 resoltuion, having all that stuff scattered is no big deal. I personally hate having everything in one window, I want to be able to look at a few different files at a time, makes things a lot easier for me. I cried when I had to send Dan a crash log for Jammin' Racer with the segfault on line 11067 of main.cpp
Splitting up source into multiple files and indenting is for wimps ;)

Maybe that is where we are all going wrong. Instead of spending time making all the source look pretty we should just code.

I hope your next project is MacAmosBasic. :)
Too many memories (and $$ spent of updates)!

This thread has actually motivated me to clean up my desktop and all my folders, as well as switching some apps for better ones that I saw you guys using.
