In the grand tradition of iDevGames mini-contests:

start at 12.01am, Saturday 11 February GMT
end at 11.59pm, Sunday 12 February GMT

That is, it's a (nearly-)48-hour contest. That should give people new to OpenGL and 3D a chance to get something done, plus there's a couple of days for research purposes beforehand.

Entry is by posting to this thread. There are no prizes.

The contest is to make a first-person shooter. As usual, it must run natively on Mac OS X 10.4.4. Universal Binaries are not required, but much appreciated ;) Use your favorite language. Work in a team with your favorite people.

Contest discussion in irc://irc.freenode.net#idevgames-mini-contest as usual.

I'm game for this, but I'd prefer to do this contest with another person. That way I can learn more about coding a game that if I'd do it alone.

Since when is Tiger the usual?

I might enter.

The usual requirements for a contest are the latest OS version at the time of contest announcement.

AFAIK, the OMG contest had Tiger as a requirement.

I would enter, but I'm still working on the "infrastructure" for my future projects. Basically, an API and helper app for loading models as well as collisions and animations. I'll show it off once it's far enough to get a viewable demo ready. :) Hopefully I can finish this by summer, and be able to begin entering contests then.

I believe Taxxodium and I will be working on a joint entry, :)

Everyone remember to use OpenAL for 3D sound!

Well, I got sent to Sydney. That kind of put a damper on this -- nowhere near enough time, and nowhere near enough energy.

Here's what I managed in the two and a half hours' programming time I managed to scrape up:
binary: http://onesadcookie.com/~keith/FPS.tar.bz2
source: http://onesadcookie.com/svn/repos/FPS

There seems to be a certain amount of interest in trying this contest again next weekend, so we may just do that :) I'll post a new announcement then.
