http://www.apple.com/getamac/ check the touche' ad

They're still funny, though I really dont understand the point Mac makes about the touche thing, I think PC uses the term correctly and Mac is just trying desperately to be a smartass.

No, the Mac is making a valid point. If the PC had said "you can't run windows" and the Mac had said "actually I can", then the PC could have used the word in a valid sense. It's essentially a form of "you've scored a point" originally used in fencing.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Touche

As the PC wasn't actually arguing with the Mac or making a point for the Mac to counterpoint (the Mac was just saying that he runs Windows too), the use of the word touché was out of place.

What Zwil said.
And yes, this was the geekiest poll ever. :P

Well they were implicitely "arguing" (*fencing*) in all of the ads (for who is better).

Mainly what bothers me is i never heard that it needs to be a "conterpoint" to be a touche, it can simply be a "point" IMO (from the definition "to acknowledge an effective point in argument")

It can be, but there has to be a specific argument first. While there's an implicit challenge in the ads, they're not actually arguing. In fact, the basic concept seems to be that the PC is so stupid, he can't even argue properly.

Did anyone catch this text superimposed on the video (as well as a footnote after it)?

*Purchase of Windows and Parallels software required.

Sure, Boot Camp is beta but... ?

Third-party software solutions such as Parallels Desktop for Mac help make it possible.
from http://www.apple.com/getamac/windows.html
Apple seem to have lost interest in advertising Boot Camp. The pundits have been predicting that Boot Camp will evolve into a virtualisation app like Parallels when Leopard comes out so the beta was probably more of a short term measure to get Windows running on a Mac. It's just that it was made unnecessary a couple of days before it came out, and then made pretty much obselete a week or two later.

Parallels and other virtualization options still don't support Direct3D right? So Boot Camp ain't worthless yet.

touche (I think!)
Although I suspect that Apple have even less interest in Direct3D than they do in the Mac games scene.

I think the "counterpoint" argument, is just plain made up by the mac guy. I didnt find anywhere on the internet a reference to a "counterpoint" in touche'.

If despite this one wants to argue that it can't be a touche' because they're not properly "arguing" or "fencing" (i.e. it's just the mac guy stabbing PC), that's a stretch IMO but fine.

This is the stupidest thread ever, but touché is more properly used as a counterpoint. It comes from fencing. I go after you and score a point and you come right back and score one against me. Touché. The PC had no point at all. He was using it incorrectly in ANY sense of the word. Now stop being smart asses and trying to call the Mac guy a smart ass. He's right. :)

In fencing there's nothing like that, the action is stopped after each point.

There can't be an argument in it, without there having been a counter point against a point already at least once.

And considering wasn't he said wasn't a direct point in a direct argument, there wasn't even a definitive point to have a counter point for a counter point etc.
