Hello,
I posted a while back about how to make a decent mushroom cloud. I've got some free time now after a rather hectic graduation, so I thought I would show our work to anyone interested:

it is currently playable, but I still have a lot of work to do before submitting it to IGF. Most notably, getting games over IP (it was designed for LAN play only and I have no clue how to get aroudn firewall issues). As well as tweaking some of the graphics and game play and adding some music. Somewhere down the line I messed up the water a bit as well and I have no clue why:) Thanks OSC for leading me away from volume rendered smoke, as not only is it currently really slow with the water but I only had about, oh 1 day to make the missile and explosion particle effects ( a miracle in the hours of 10pm - 6am or so:) Such is life, oh well it's summer now. I have the problem where I turned depth testing off for the smoke, so you can see the explosion sort of looks like it's emitting from the bottom of the screen. I suppose I could use the stencil buffer with just the terrain and water... or maybe some way to not have the smoke write to the depth buffer... anyway, I'll be releasing the source code at some point if someone want's to bash my networking model I would love to hear it hehe
