As I'm going to visit a friend soon, I was wondering if there is any way to remove the intel iMac stand for easy transportation(not use), and put it back on later. I googled it and most people seemed to want to do it to create a laptop, and have received mostly comments about their intelligence and how it would overheat. This is not what I want to do, I just want it off for easier transportation. Thanks in advance.

At first I thought, well as it's designed to have a VESA mount it should be easy, but I just checked the Apple Knowledge Base and it seems the Intel iMacs *aren't* designed to have the stand taken off and replaced with a VESA mount, so there's a good chance that taking the stand off is a *bad* thing (ie risky back opening).

Yeah, I did some more research, looks like the previous iMacs opened at the back, but the intel one opens in the front, so I'd have to remove everything, including the LCD, HD, Motherboard, etc to get at the stand, not worth it. Oh well.

120 Dollars? Meh, I bought a cooler bag from Target, and put in the foam pieces from the iMac box (with some cutting), and it fit in there fine. Total cost, $8. Also, that website looks a bit... fake. I mean, they have a picture of a guy bunny-hopping with a G5 on his back? That just seems a bit odd. Also, how the website is just set up, I dunno.

That bag reminds me of the bag my dad had for his SE/30. Probably the same company, different name.
