Writing an ecosystem simulation. The reason is not important.

What is important is how cool it looks, and how much cooler it would look if I had a faster system and could render more curved shapes.

Those green things are algae particles. The fishies eat them.

The plan is to add hot fish sex (and therefore babies), death by old age, a tiny bit of death animation (read: fade-out instead of pop-out), predators, and "pollution" (DDT, plastic soda things, invader fish, etc).

Pretty cool. Any evolution going to be happening in the ecosystem?

Better get that hot fish sex going, or they'll soon be suffocated by algae. ;) (although I'm sure they'll be happy enough if all they have to do is sit there as algae reproduces into their mouth since there's no place else. :p)

Edit: seems to have stopped at algae population 1999, fish population 10.

The fish are nice, but processing takes ages to load.
You might want to look into http://www.red3d.com/cwr/boids/ as well

seems to have stopped at algae population 1999, fish population 10.

That's because a) I've capped the algae so it doesn't slow me down too much, and b) the fish don't reproduce; they can only die of hunger right now.

Aaaargh! Please, add a little *Warning: Java* next time. It crashed Firfox right off (on WinXP).
