I just ran the Disk Utility which found that my hard drive has something wrong with it (actually caused the "Verify Disk" tool to crash) and told me to repair the disk. To do this I would need the OS X boot disk. The problem is that said disk is at my school and not with me. Is there anyway to repair the disk without the OS X boot disk? Maybe booting it straight into the Terminal? Thanks for the help.

boot into single user mode (hold command-s as the machine boots) then run fsck as described just above the prompt.
