Does the top level domain of a domain name influence your decision to visit a website?

If so, is there any real reason or is it just some kind of virtual snobbery?

Do you just stick to those related to your country or are they just 'invisible' to you and just part of a link?

I don't pay much attention to them, and I certainly don't discriminate based on country.

I do put higher regards to .com, .net, .org and .se than cheap-o TLDs as .tk, .nu, .to, but that's purely based on perceived cost of service. Someone who is not willing to pay for something that isn't an almost-free TLD isn't making a good business impression.

I don't usually like buying anything from TLDs other than com, net, or org for some reason (psychological?). For anything else it matters not. mil and gov kinda creep me out sometimes though.

When I remember domain names I usually assume it's .com so i type remembereddomainname.com

.net is ok for internet services but not much else, .org is good for non profit, .country is ok for regional suff, but for everything else anything other than .com sound as cheapo (to me)

Is this related to this thread?

Frankly I don't mind at all, although I have always found the .co.[something] a bit odd.

Also, I just changed my signature link about a week ago, did anyone ever notice the added .ar?

Partly related to the mentioned thread, partly curiosity and partly market research.

For me .com has always meant a US site (and the positives / negatives that brings). This is probably from back in the early days when it was not possible to register a .com domain from the UK.

I expect .de to be something in german, .com to be anything in english, and .net or .org for open-source projects. Anything else is something that always makes me stop for a short moment, as I wonder what this means.

.tk or .de.vu (very popular in Germany) always make me think that it's some crappy private homepage.
