Hi, I'm not sure where to ask this so...

I'm trying to find lowest priced ram to upgrade my ibook g4 (I just spent all my money on a used powerbook g4 but I will save up for maybe ram on this ibook in a couple weeks) this ibook is sloooooow when it comes to compiling my projects and god i hate when wxwidgets has an update it takes literally 3+ hours to recompile wx. :ninja:

and I found this but i'm not sure what kind of ram it needs but this first site looks like it knows. So, I'm asking if anybody here uses the 2nd link to upgrade an ibook or if you think they are the same kind of ram? I don't know what non-ECC means o.O but the first site is saying my ibook needs non-ECC but the 2nd site while lower priced doesn't mention whether or not it is ECC or what?

first link: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=FB21EA36A5CA7304

second link: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=340841&pfp=external&tabtype=rv#review

Thanks! :)

Why do they have to make it so complicated to find compatible ram!?

(thanks for fixing my login again :) )

I've used Crucial to upgrade most of my Macs at some point. They're pretty reliable and usually pretty good price wise. They're actually the factory outlet for Micron, so it's a pretty major brand memory wise.

Unfortunately, cheap PC RAM has a habit of not always being compatible as they often skimp on tolerances that Macs actually check for. It's worth the extra $17 to get it from Crucial as they guarantee it'll work in your Mac, whereas the only guarantee you'll get from CompUSA is usually that you'll have to deal with stupid people :)

Ok, I read similar responses elsewhere that crucial is more reliable than others if more expensive :) I should have the money within a few weeks and I'll order from crucial I also really like their web site system of telling you which ram you need specifically (not that I could prove it was correct really...or else I wouldn't need that tool I guess ;) ).

I recently bought 2x 1gb rams for two of my other computers from compusa though and they are pretty nice and reliable too but I had to go in the store and wait for the guy to open the glass door (they really worry about stolen ram I guess) but it was pretty cheap and so far no problems at all. I installed them both in my XP computer and then put the other in my linux computer and now this ibook which was already the slowest (besides my really really old 850 mhz p3 laptop freebsd one... doesn't count) seems really really sloooow. Also, I kind of am impatient and prefer to go to the store and pick it up rather than deliver and have to wait (I'm still waiting for my used powerbook I bought on ebay!! I hate waiting  )

I can compile the exact same thing and in xp takes a few minutes maybe and the linux about twice as much as the windows and the ibook I could watch a movie and it still wouldn't be done. I've just been wary because I have never upgraded ibook ram or even opened it up before (besides the keys once and was scary i thought i broke it) but I've upgraded stuff on other laptops and desktops lots so i can figure it out i'm sure.

Thanks! :)
