View Full Version : Explore! between alpha and beta...

My latest attempt at a game is called Explore!, it started as an attempt to create a modern version of Desert Trek but now it is just... a game. The objective is to discover things in the desert, and doing this places little souvenir items on the game's splash screen.
If anyone is bored, please check out the alpha/beta version and provide some constructive criticism. http://iskub.sippan.se/explore/exploretest.zip
The "engine" is basically complete, what I have left to do is add some more encounters/title screen accessories, and then some tweaking.
Also, if anyone is a musician interested in creating two or three very basic little melodies for this game without getting paid (because it is a freeware game and I have no money), e-mail me :) sippan@sippan.se
(p.s. The ReadMe file in that zip is in Swedish, but there's nothing important in it that can't be gathered from a quick glance by an English-speaker, I think.)

Works on my Mac!
I like the desert dust storm effect.

Oh yes the sand storm effect is very nice.
I don't know how much it involves but some interaction with nomads or adventurers would be interesting.
"Start New Game" is not starting a new game at the end.
Ah it expects and only accepts "copy"

This is fun, I'm interested in what other puzzles and challenges you will come up with.

I like the idea of this game a lot, but I would like it better if there were more things you could do - I tried typing in various verbs but they weren't recognised.
I am VERY THIRSTY! No really, I am. I'd better get some beer.

Well, I played this some more last night with my 6 year old son. He loves it! So much so that he woke me up at 6.30 this morning to play it some more! Now I have found the legs, but I'm stuck... :(

Man, I totally remember Desert Trek. Not only that, I remember (and probably still have somewhere), the book on Mac game programming that the Desert Trek author wrote. Anyone else read that?
