If you want to pay $$$, BarbaPatch (sp?) is the BEST. SoundApp is also great but Classic only if I recall. Amadeus seems to support many formats as well. What do you want to convert?
Mostly AIFF->MP3, but some WAV->MP3. I will check out those suggested apps. Thanks.

for the budget minded, itunes works fine for mp3 conversion, quicktime player can export in a few sound formats too I believe.

Yeah, iTunes does the job. I think you need to have the pro version of quicktime to save any movies/sounds.

you don't need the pro version of quicktime to export.
Use media pipe, It takes a little fiddling to figure out, but it's not complicated.
It's a pipeline builder to convert all sorts of AV into all sorts of other AV:
quicktime, mpeg 1 & 2, aac, ac3, mp3, mp2, mux, demux, ect.
