The Hooptie 0.2.3u Updater has been released for those without Project Builder. The update contains all the work done on Hooptie since 0.2.2u, including the new rock tiles, preliminary (still bumpy) Jukebox support, dates in High Scores and custom level loading plus a number of other minor changes.

This update is for those without CVS access and only updates the Hooptie application (not the source). As always the latest version of Hooptie is also available in source code form through the CVS.

Read the next part carefully.

To use the latest Updater you will need to be using Hooptie 0.2.2u.

To check which version of Hooptie you have click on the Hooptie application (once) in the Columns View and read the information from the newly appearing column.

If you are using a version of Hooptie prior to 0.2.1 you will need to download Hooptie 0.2.1 from our SourceForge website (http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkubator/) before proceeding.

If you are using Hooptie 0.2.1 you can download the 0.2.2u Updater here (http://inkubator.idevgames.com/updater-0.2.2u.sit) (apply it first before applying this latest update).

If you are using Hooptie 0.2.2u you can download the 0.2.3u Updater here (http://inkubator.idevgames.com/updater-0.2.3u.sit).

Enjoy (feedback welcomed),

Thanks, Mark :-) This update method is very quick and efficient, and I really appreciate having an up-to-date version :-) I find that 30 seconds *still* isn't lne enough to read the "whole" story, but that's a minor detail. I finally learned that our alien friends are visiting from a planet in a binary sun system, I never knew that before ;-) I also can't seem to get Hooptie to play any music, though when I first started it, there was no music in my home directory, and no music folder in the same directory as the app, so I created a new Music folder, added some music and re-launched Hooptie... but no luck, yet. I will try to add some music to my home directory Music folder, to see if that works . . . . (*ah, yes, that worked*)

I had one other little user-problem when using the updater, and that is that I unstuffed it in the same directory as the previous updater which had the same name, so Stuffit automatically renamed the new updater "Hooptie Updater.app.1", which OS X then treated like a folder. Once I realized what happened it was easy enough to fix, and it was my own doing, but it is still not something I'd ever had to worry about in OS9... :(

The simplest solution to the story going away too fast should be resolved when the click-through is implemented. We could add a small "Click to start" message at the bottom of the story view and eliminate the 30 second countdown until the game starts all together. This way players can read the story at there leisure...

I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill but I think the Hooptie story would be best told using something like a flash animation. Nothing too complex but I think players would actually take the time to watch the story as opposed to just reading it. Too bad we don't get paid to work on this project. ;)

The "Click to Start" story screen is implemeneted and I agree that a less static story screen would be great. But that should come in good time.
