Simple but addicting. Very nicely done. Even more so because it's freeware.

5 stars

hehe. I like it :)

although...

I'd make it so that the player has a thrust control rather than always moving forward (like asteroids) and it would be cool if the game had levels, at least when playing single player.

No it isn't, he wants $5 for it ;).

I like it, but I have two criticisms:

Collision detection/response is a bit off - I got hit a few times when the graphics showed me just getting out of the way in time, and I escaped damage by hitting enemy shots with the inside of my shield a couple of times, and the shots don't always bounce off the same part of the shield that they hit; and

Finder windows are ok, but background apps' windows get resized.

However, extra kudos for making the start-game animation skippable.

That' s because when a shot goes very near you, the automatic barrier goes on (that red thing) avoiding you a sudden death... or would you prefer exact collisions and no shield?;)
(In truth it' s TNT Basic that does not calculate pixel exact collisions when he' s got rotations, but the story is nice (isn't it?:))

and I escaped damage by hitting enemy shots with the inside of my shield a couple of times

when the shot gets blue, it can' t harm you any more.

and the shots don't always bounce off the same part of the shield that they hit

hmm, at maximum it should go parallel to the shield...

I' m sorry, this is a TNT Basic problem, I' m just a high level programmer...

Read the readme, played with the options, like it even more.

About collision:

(1) I seemed to get hit when even the red shield wouldn't have been hit.

(2) shots going blue... good point, fair enough ;).

(3) I'm sure a shot hit the "left" of the shield and rebounded off the "right" once... it could well be as you said, it was something I only had a split second to notice and analyze.

About windows: fair enough again.

One more thing: I'd really like it if we could alter ship size and space curvature at the same time.

yeah, that sure happens: you should think of the barrier as a line with no thickness: shots rebound depending just on the angle they hit the barrier, no matter if they hits it to the left or the right. Oh, another thing. even if you get a shot with the back of the shield, for some complex physics reason, the shot goes through somehow. this is the (only) way to avoid some more heavy problems.

Aaaaargh, I hoped no one would ever had asked this!!!! It happened very soon!

After playing it a few hundred times :D , I've come up with a list of things I'd like to see in Radical Rebound:

1) Reconfigurable controls
2) Different difficulty levels
3) Argh. I had a few more but I just forgot. I'll add them if I remember.

It' s good to here somebody enjoys the game, thanx!
Some VT reviews destroy you...
But I managed to play it with 3 friends (and one was a girl! who I think never played a game before!) for 3 hours, so it can' t be that bad!:)

gettin on with your requests:

1) Reconfigurable controls

Hmmm, I actually could do this manually, even though TNT does not support this function for OS X. But it would be 129 lines of well, if pressed "105" then letter ="a", if pressed "106" then letter="f"... (the' re all mixed up!)

Don' t you like the controls disposing?
Anyway, I know in 4 you are a bit tight... I' ll make it networkable if I manage to get TNT to work... (argh!!!)

2) Different difficulty levels

Hmm... this one is "difficult": there are already a million options that change the difficulty, though no option is actually called "difficulty": game speed, rotation speed, number of enemies, player energy, spaceship size, sound effects volume (oh well, this might not be proper... but I bet you don' t play well with 1000 decibel sounds :p ) ... I really cant think of much else...

The parameter you cant change is the shield size: I spent hours trying to find the best one, and having a megashield is not fair...;)

Anyway thanks for suggestions, I' m always happy when I get some!

Now I' m making a 3D engine with TNT, maybe it will be "Radical Rebound 3D"!

The controls are fine, I just thought there's always those people that would like it.

NAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

I saw your first reviewer!!!

Ehmpi3!!!!!
He really is a ba***rd!!
He gets everything he finds and without even downloading the stuff gives one star!
Try some google searches and see his other posts!:

Once, after he put 2 stars to a program that everybody gave 5, some on told him to look better at the program before reviewing, so he reviewed again giving one star!

We could do a club, the "kill-emphi3" club!!

Hope he releases something one day, he' s dead! :sneaky:
