Well I have finally! completed my second Mac port. Pocket Tanks. It is being received very well. The first game DX-Ball did average, as expected since it was an old game... We (the original author Mike Welch and I) really wanted to release DX-Ball first so that we could get the kinks ironed out of my Mac engine and have a solid release of Pocket Tanks. I think it was well worth it!

Here is a link to my site if anyone is interested in checking out the game:

www.ctspgames.com

I am really slammed right now with customer support and whatnot, but I am definately planning on writing a PostMortem, discussing the fun and not-so-fun of porting games to Carbon.

Might be a little while though.

Any ways - I just wanted to say releasing a game on the Mac feels like home! Its really cool the way this community works. Much different on the PC side :( Sure people play games, but there is just a different Atmosphere over there.

I didn't encounter any problems with the archive; like the game, especially the (very slightly odd) background music.

We are pushing around 6GB a day since it got on Maccentral... So if you have a corrupted download, its probably just because of the amount of traffic :( I can verify that the .sit is not corrupted. I wish I knew of a better way to preserve the integrity of the archive...

Yes! Well there is a bit more to the history of Pocket Tanks than just "Scorched Earth" =) But there is definately some simularities. BTW if you are on a PC you can get the PC version here:

www.blitwise.com

Mike also wrote Scorched Tanks for the Amiga. He wrote Pocket Tanks somewhat in Homage to the old 2 player artillery games from the 70's .and 80's

At any rate, it is a great game =) and I was really honored to be able to port it to the Mac.

Yeah, Pocket Tanks is cool(I've played it at my friends PC before) but one artillery game I've played for a long time and still do occasionally is Dome Wars, it just fits my need for fun :)

I like it a lot :), the download works now.

I was actually thinking of making a game like that.

Great game; I think I'm starting to develop an addiction to it. Simple yet fun gameplay, great polish, nice visuals, and a rather... interesting soundtrack (in a good way). Of course, Scorched Earth will always hold a special place in my heart, but this is better for quick, five-minute games (and doesn't make me start up XWindows). Thanks for porting it to the Mac!

Yeah, I downloaded it at work (just don't tell my supervisor. :) and then I d/l:d it again when I came home. Me and my girlfriend played it for three hours straight, and then we registered it, and have played it a lot since then. I guess that's a pretty good mark. :) (Never paid for shareware before. :D)
