Font usage

Will there be legal issues if I put a font in my game's resource fork so all users can see it in my game?

Depends on the font... but yes, probably, unless you made it yourself.

Be careful of the many 'Free" fonts since many of them are really copyrighted and people assume they are free.

Does anyone know of any public domain fonts then? Or is my only option to draw my own font?

Yes, but they don't include it with their application. If you access the fonts the system has and don't include it, you're okay.

I just thought of something else: what about games that copy fonts and make letter sprites out of them? Is that illegal or considered to be your own work?

Just include a link to the font and say "you need this font to run this game"

I know the Gadget font comes with OS 9, but does it come with OSX?
How about Techno?

I have neither here.

They're still available if they're in the current Classic System Folder, so most people will have them, but they're not installed with Mac OS X AFAICT.

Also remember that not all *default* fonts are included with all mac systems. I have found that most non canadien systems don't have Techno in OS X. Every version and every computer I have tried in canada has it. go figure.

There are many fonts that come with Mac OS X that didn't come with Mac OS 9, and a few that came with Mac OS 9 that don't come with Mac OS X.
