Hi,
I'm thinking about selling one of my games as shareware. The question I have is do I need to have an LLC or something? Instead, could I just put my web site name copyright my first and last name and be in the clear? Also do I need legal services or anything like that?

Thanks,
Iceman

Well, I don't have ANY legal work at all, and i'm violating the Terms of Service for signup up with paypal (not 18), but i'm selling a game. But, this probably isn't the answer you were looking for :ninja:

Goody. Then I shouldn't have any trouble with just using kagi.com. Also I stop the government from taking $200 from me to register a company.

You can do a DBA if you want.
a Doing Business as.

Its a Assumed name...

So you can do business under the name

Two Guys in their Bed Rooms Software.

If you like...

Cost maybe 35$

But doing it Jake's way doesn't violate any legal terms (other than paypal's) right? What's the benefit of a DBA? An established name that can be copyrighted?

Dan Parks Sydow wrote up a 3 part article on starting an online business that outlines the advantages of using DBA, setting up merchant accounts for credit cards, setting up a web site etc. Although the article is nearly 3 years old there is still a lot of relevant info on the subject. If you are interested the article is at

http://www.insanely-great.com/features/121300.html

It is written in a very easy to follow style and takes you step by step on how to set everything up.

To establish a name you can do business under that is not your own name.

All software/art/music etc is automatically copyright YOU.
Now there are things like registered copyright and thats different in some way that I don't know.
