A new beta version of Chromacell is now available.

Please read the readme.txt file for a brief overview of the game.

It can be downloaded from here (http://homepage.mac.com/cloisterroom/chromacell).

You can read all about the development in my developer diary (http://www.idevgames.com/content/diary.php?id=8).

All feedback welcome.

There should be some way to increase the stake amount at a faster rate than clicking incessantly on the "stake +" button. Maybe have some way to change the increment or a field where we can enter our wager.

After a break of over seven months I have finally got around to doing some more work on Chromacell.

You can download version 12 of the beta from http://www.cloisterroom.com/Chromacell_Beta_12.zip.

I've no idea what the minimum specs are for the game so if you try the game out please let me know your specs and how well it performs.

The download contains a link for feedback as I am trying to keep everything together.

All feedback is appreciated as I am aiming to complete development by the end of 2004 for an early 2005 release.

Thank you.

Beta 13 can now be downloaded from http://www.cloisterroom.com/Chromacell_Beta_13.zip or via the Check for Updates menu item of a previous version of Chromacell.

New this time round:

Basic AI
The computer opponents now work to a plan instead of just making random moves.

Correct Cell Count
Initial cells are now included in each player's score.

Note: I've just moved this thread from Announcements as Work in Progress was not around when I first started the thread.

Beta 14 can be downloaded from here http://www.cloisterroom.com/Chromacell_Beta_14.zip or via the Check for Updates menu on previous versions of the game.

New this time:

Level Over Screen
The results of a level are now listed in order with the winner at the top of the list.

High Scores
High score tables have been added for each of the game modes. There is also a button to the high scores screen from the title screen.

I am still trying to produce minimum specs required for the game but as yet have not received much feedback in that area.

(although, Frantic whatever is kind hard on this computer (or it's just me :) ))

Beta 16 can be downloaded from http://www.cloisterroom.com/Chromacell_Beta_16.zip or via the Check for Updates menu on previous versions of the game.

The only changes of note are:

* I think I have located and fixed the memory leak which was slowing things down. Feedback on this issue would be very appreciated.

* Clicks outside of the board area are no longer counted as illegal moves.

Enjoy

Beta 18 of Chromacell can be downloaded from here: http://www.cloisterroom.com/Chromacell_Beta_18.zip

This version sees a lot of graphical and layout tidying up and standardisation across the game. Graphical polish is now virtually complete.

I have also removed all the graphics that are no longer used in the game from the build. This has greatly reduced the size of the download from 2.9 MB to 1.4 MB - a truly dial up friendly game.

Grr! I stink at these games! Nice and polished, tho. I liked the tutorial, but I feel it was somewhat incomplete. I'd like to get to know what moves are allowed and what moves are not. (You cannot always move onto an empty cell, if it's becide an opponents cell. In the same manner, you'll have to take over opponents cells by starting in one end.)

Frantic killed me even before I got started..

Two in one day you lucky people!

Here is Beta 19 of Chromacell. Get it here http://www.cloisterroom.com/Chromacell_Beta_19.zip

The speed of the Frantic games has been slowed down.
Also the training levels have been increased in order to explain things a bit clearer.

Wee! I got it now! Great new tutorial. I didn't understand the stuff with having the majority of adjacent cells to capture a cell before this tutorial. It just seemed random to me when I could and when I could not capture a cell. Fun gameplay. Not good when I have to finish an assignment for tomorrow. :(

:mad::ninja::)
:mad::mad::ninja:

..one needs majority of adjacent cells to make freelance ninjas mad.
..now why did I write something that stupid?

Beta 20 can be downloaded from http://www.cloisterroom.com/Chromacell_Beta_20.zip or via the Check for Updates menu on previous versions of the game.

This version sees the addition of the Bonus cell which changes the neighbours of a captured cell to the same colour.

The internal high score system has been changed due to Mac OS 10.4 issues.
