I've been working on this for a while, and it's still not done, but I need suggestions.
edit: hosting bug fixed

I plan to add Area Flat 2-like bosses, and one or two more alien types. The current alien formation is definitely not final, and makes the game pretty hard. When I have more alien types, I'll make individual levels.
Please skim the Read Me first. Oh, and try not to play iTunes in the background, as it makes the game about 5 FPS slower on my computer. No idea why.

Game crashed and caused the grey screen bug because you didn't set the minimum memory requirements. The one shot on screen is incredibly annoying, the help and about sections don't work and the graphics are rather ugly. It also made continuous system beeps and so the game became unplayable after around ten seconds.

Nice! Love the graphics (especially the cyclops aliens!). Sounds are cool too. I think the first level starts off with everything moving about twice as fast as it should though. Like you said, the alien formation for the first level is just too hard to start with, no biggie.
Okay, but a major problem that I encountered is that once I'm dead and start a new game, he won't fire anymore. Have to restart the game to get firing back.
When I quit the game normally, it thinks it crashed and wants to send a bug report off to apple (you know, that stupid "unexpectedly quit" dialog in Panther -what were they thinking BTW?).
Otherwise seems to work alright. Dual G4 867, dual monitors, Panther, plenty o RAM.

I, uh, put that in the Read Me...but I can't expect anyone to read that, can I, especially one labeled specifically for OS 9 users.

It's more than that! More like 3. I'm trying not to make it too easy.

Whoops, sorry, for got to tell anyone that...if you click them they will beep until you quit.

It's a matter of opinion I guess. You're the first person I've talked to who hates them.

I noticed that last build, and never got around to fixing it. Sorry, it'll be in the next build. I hope.

Can't really do much about that, it's a METAL bug. Try pressing Escape repeatedly to quit instead of Cmd-Q.
Thanks for the feedback people, this is why I'm posting it on iDG as a pre-release BEFORE putting it up on VersionTracker.

Okay, the no-shoot-on-new-game bug's been fixed, as well as the help-and-about-beep-you-to-death bug.
Next comes adding the enemy type that's only available to hit every 5 seconds! Or maybe 3. Which one should it be?
Off topic, but diordna you should really post your canvas wars postmortem on iDevGames, it was good.

It works! Cool, I can keep playing now.
Help and about both do nothing.

I say five. [Edit] I was thinking like cloaking/shielding for one second out of every five. You probably have something else in mind.
I also say it be slowed down. I have a hard time just getting to level two. Those cyclops guys zing out a few shots that are virtually impossible to avoid. Fast as lightning. I don't think that's the speed you meant, so maybe there's a throttling issue? Maybe you're just mean, I don't know.:D

New version up with new alien type. Working on formations now.
Oh, and my web host seems to be acting up. I've contacted the admin, problem should be fixed, but for now you'll have to use an alternate, slightly less reliable download.
edit: bug fixed, use normal download
I know about the "lightning shots," but I haven't tried to fix it yet.
If you try to download the new one and it doesn't work (ie within a few minutes of this posting), just try again later. When I wrote this the email to my temporary host with the file hadn't gotten through yet.

I've updated quite a few things since the last post. In the current version, Dev 1.45, a lot of bugs have been fixed, custom formations can be made, and now explosions are particle effects instead of vector graphics.
