Hi,

My name is Nick Burnette and I write music for indie games. I want to get on a team for the uDev contest this year. I was on a team last year but the game wasn't quite ready in time, se la vie. I have a website www.synthesizedsounds.com with music and more information. I dont offer SoundFX but I can tell you where to get them for cheap. Good luck to all teams this time around and please drop me a line!

If the rules are the same as last year, then I can only work on one team. I do charge money, but I dont charge much. I've done game music for too long to give it away any more and usually only serious dev teams are willing to pay, which means the game is a true effort. Good all around I say. Cheers,

(ps) I wonder if there is a uDev Theme Music contest this year. They tried last year but only 2 people submitted work. Camacho?

Sincerely,

Nick Burnette

...and if you were wondering.... I usually charge $15 per minute of music. I'm willing to do less under certain circumstances of course. Thought I'd throw that out there since no one replied yet, perhaps everyone thought I cost more than that.

AIEEE!!!!!!

actually that isn't too bad, but factor in 20 minutes of music, that is a pretty penny up front.

do you also do %profit?

Hmmm... not a bad idea, and I agree that charging a little may "keep the riff-raff out." However... there is already an entry fee for the contest, and $15/minute, while not out of line, would require... $150 for 10 minutes of music. Definitely pricey for a game that will be open source.

Still... I'm sure you may get some bites.

Hi guys,

Yes, it can add up if you start getting more than 10 minutes of music for a small project. But do the uDevGames really have that much music? I could do 12 tracks at 30 seconds each-- totalling 6 minutes. Also, techno is cheaper because it is easier and faster to write. Orchestral takes time, usually I spend 4 hours on each finished minute. When writing techno I usually spend 30 minutes on each minute of music.

So, tell you what, I'll do techno for $39 up to 15 minutes. For orchestral, just let me know what you have in mind and we can work with something reasonable for both of us. (by "you" and "us", I mean anyone considering the offer :) )

and no, there is no additional % fee based on royalties.

I've done music for free, and strangely it never sounds as good. A little cash really seems to help the creative process, makes the project feel important.

Highly agreed. Someone jump on this! If not, I think I will :)
(but not Techno, rather something Olympics-style)

There are of course some techno samples on my website www.synthesizedsounds.com . They are the ones titled "FPS1 , Track04"

Alex, I can send you a ten second sample.

In the event that I receive multiple proposals (always a good thing) I'll look into each project and make a choice based on that. I'm looking forward to this year's event :)

Olympics? That would be fun!

Ooh, track04 is nice, forget sending me samples, those are pretty good, i like your work. How should i contact you about how much time i want and to discuss prime. Do you have an Aim account? I would like to talk to you live, i'll e-mail you with what I would like for my game.
