I saw that the winner of the udevgames contest will once again get to show off their game in the arcade section at the MacWorld expo. I was thinking, there may be some of us who would want to be represented at MacWorld but can't enter our work into udevgames because our projects are taking more than 3 months to complete.
I think it would be fun to pool our resources and buy booth space at an upcoming expo (probably not San Francisco; it's coming up kind of soon) and call it the iDevGames booth, or maybe the Mac Indy Games booth.
Unfortunately, it costs thousands to buy a ten foot square of booth space at an expo. And it seems as though IDG Expos would rather continue charging high fees, even at the risk of shutting out some vendors and sacrificing some of the excitement that the expos have to offer. So this may not be feasible financially, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there. :D

Well Macworld SF is the only American MacWorld Expo, Macworld Boston was a deadzone like Macworld NY was last year (from reports I've read), and it may not happen again next summer.

If you have a game worth showing off contact Apple, and they might run the game on one of their boxes at their games area at E3, Developer Conference, or Macworld SF.

Another option is of course to contact one of the larger publishers like Macplay, Aspyr, MonkeyByte, or Ambrosia.

It's a good idea, but as you said, Expos seem to be pricing out a good deal of potential developers. 'Tis a shame.

With pressures of selling their own library of titles, most publishers won't be keen on having indie developers at their booth, based on past comments to me. (Especially indie devs with cool free games!!!!)

I think tool devs might be more app to host you, like Metrowerks, GarageGames, etc...
Another route is hardware companies that make joysticks, or graphic cards.
And one more route is a book publisher who is pushing Mac dev books.

If you want to do the leg work, try: ron_moreau at idg.com and ask him for the lowest cost stall.

Once I get out of Japan, and return to America, I'll finally have a chance to seriously look at doing a MacWorld. (Providing I don't become a homeless bum.)

Thanks; I contacted Ron at IDG and he referred me to Warwick Davies, who is involved in selecting the games that will be in the MacWorld Gaming Arcade. But since Apple is sponsoring the Arcade, I believe Apple makes the final decision. The arcade seems like a more affordable way to gain publicity than a booth... now I can understand the appeal of working through a publisher that can afford a full booth at MacWorld
