View Full Version : Trace My Logo
I need a talented artist to redo my logo in layers so that I can animate it. The original can be found here (http://www.angelfire.com/indie/simreality). I'd prefer Photoshop, Illustrator, or (best even) Flash MX (where I will be doing the animating). Either way I thank you for any time you put into it for it will benefit me immensly.
ps.
the reasons that I need this done are 1) I made it using some effects in Photoshop so there are no layers and 2) I am a terrible artist.

I think you'd better create a new logo as recreating that one is quite a nasty job. Obviously you started from some sort of graphic and added a bunch of effects to it.
It would be handy to have that basic graphic if you have it. If not, well all I can say is, let this be a lesson to allways work in layers. I know from personal experience that that is the way to go.
All I did to make it was use the cloud effect in Photoshop followed by some swirling effects and then mirroring to get the symmetry. There was no basic graphic and there was no possible way of working with layers.

I would highly recommend making your logo a 1 color solid graphic. No half-toning, just a one color shape design.
You can download some free vector graphics programs to get you started.

Do you have a version without the text? I think I know a way to separate the different colors into different layers.

I think I might do something like that. Just having some tapered red strands making something similar to that logo so I can quickly (or not so quickly) animate using Flash MX. Then the text will appear and smoke may or may not make it into the final.

I don't have another version (I'm bad with this art thing but I'm getting better) but even if I did I need to separate it by strands so as to allow for animation. Thanks though.
I've found that I cannot recreate in any manner my logo. I'm therefore turning to you, the artists, to try and make a logo using Illustrator, Flash MX, or Photoshop that is comparable in style to my logo. I'd appreciate it. My small games "company" is only like four people and our artist seems to be on strike.

In all honesty, I wouldn't call your logo a "logo". It's too complex. A logo should be something simple, something people can recognize by a single view.
Look at my avatar for instance. It's the logo of my company. It's very simple and people will immediatly recognize it when they see it.
You should spend some time in designing your logo on a piece of paper and then turning it in to a digital form.
Good luck!

That logo would be an enormous job to recreate in any app. Plus what would you want on what layer?

Yep, create a simple, original, recognizable logo. It makes it best if it is 1 color at its base level, because then it will work on any graphical medium and saves $ if you ever need to get it printed.
THEN, you can go nuts with it with lots of glowing, animation, and general crazy nonsense for your animated logo for all your AAA video games.
But the original 1 color, simple shape is still recognizable under all the fluff. See how that could be beneficial? Apple learned that lesson the hard way. They had a big expensive multicolored logo initially, but eventually cut it down to monotone to cut costs.

I think that's the approach I'm going for now. I'm working on various designs to see if any stick. Then I'll animate it to death with special effects in full 3d </over exaggeration>.

Eh, in case you're still interested, i removed the text, and broke the background image into four layers based on brightness. The Photoshop Elements file is at: http://www.freewebs.com/aperion0/simrealitylogo.psd.
Not really as hard to do as you'd think. If you need more layers, just ask.

I have that problem except three of them disappeared... leaving only me to finish 2 games... I might take their names off the credit because they haven't done anything yet, except for the beta-tester but we haven't got a working WIndows version yet...
