Yo, check out:
http://www.idevgames.com/forum/showthread.php?p=75691
for the heads up on what's going on.
It'll be written in Carbon.
I need a good name...
ConnectO-Killer
MushWorld
etc. etc.
(I can't figure this out on my own ;))
I'll be posting updates for this game.
versions and anything else anybody wants.
I am currently working on the menus (My first Project Builder compiled game )
I should have gameplay up soon.
e-mail me or post if you want me to e-mail you a version.
(after I get basic gameplay up)
(...still waiting on my webhosting ...)
Carlos said he'd get me some sprites and all but right now I don't think
I'll need anything except "Coder art"
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Well, I think I'd better get back to work...

I don't know how to compile a Cocoa program let alone a full blown game. :???:

I've gotten the basic windowing.
the main menu is kinda cool rightnow.
when you press up it zooms in and when you press down it zooms out.
(for calculating a good veiwing)
I've already have three-to-four posts in my dev-diary.
and am still waiting for my web hosting.
I've also got a COOL name
.
.
.
.
Gigiapede. BUM...bum...BUM :D :D :D
(but I'm still open to suggestions)
Note to Carlos (if your still doing my sprites):
I can do the main ship sprites.
the mushrooms are going to be the hardest.
(I could show you the model I'm going to use for the main shipl sprites
but I still don't have my web service yet)
See when the user presses left I'm going to make it look like the
ship is rotating forward on the y-axis.
When the user presses right I'm going to make it look like the
ship is rotating backward on the y-axis.
When the user presses up I'm going to have a paticle genarator shoot
particals out of the users current location.
When the user presses down... nothing is going to happen except he'll
"Magically" move down.
(which ever way the user presses the buttons the ship will move)
I'm also thinking of having a particle stream behind the bullet's
(and on the MainMenu pointer.) :wow:
a partical genarator isn't very hard to build (two or three functions)
but adding it in where it doesn't make a big peformance hit on my computer is hard.

Ah Centipede, what a fun game. :p
Are you planning on adding some particles to the mushrooms and monsters when a bullet hits them? It would be kind of nice to see chunks flying around.
Any plans for power-ups?
Best of luck to you! Looking forward to trying it out.

Since Ari's SpriteLib are free now, I will just dig them up and send them to you (the ones that would be inline with a Centipede clone)
Cheers,

the particle engine will be portable to all 2D games
(so long you keep structs and classes)
so adding any particles to anything in the game will be peace-O-kake.
I'm can't decide if I want to get the power-ups like Aperion or make it where you
have to shoot them.
I still have to figure out the scoring method too...
and if I want double score type power-ups.
only three shots can be on the screen.
when a user gets the bullet power-up they'll be able to shoot four, etc. etc.
I'm only going to have twenty or so bullets at one time. (so they can't cheat and get 10000 bullets at one time and overload the memory)
(unless they shoot to fast, then it will only be time / length)
There will be life power-ups, Sheilds, X-axis followers,
Higher power shots, (so instead of five shots to destroy the mushrooms it's only two)
and if I can think of any more then I will more that likely add them.

I talked to soon-to-be web host and he says that it'll take awhile before he can process my website.
(probebly because of the Christmas season) :D :D :D :D :D
I haven't been able to program so far today because of some school stuff...
but I'll get to that very soon.
Stay Cool,

Note to Carlos (if your still doing my sprites):
I can do the main ship sprites.
I found out that when I run my 3D modeler that it uses HD memory...
(like to store variables)
then when I quit I get it all back...
(so it won't let me save the rendered pictures)
I'm running out of memory so I can't run it...
So I'm not going to be able to do the main ship sprites...
(unless I get a bigger HD for Christmas   )
I was going to do it where when the ship moves right or left it will look like the ship is rolling
right or left...
all together it would be eight sprites... (not to big)
and the ship would be looped (so if the user went to far I would start at the first or last)
also, were you (Carlos) going to do the nameplates and background...
cause if you don't I could find someone or just do them myself...
(if I learn how to do 3D text in OpenGL then it would take half the graphics) :)
so...
I don't think there is anything else to report except
the main menu layout is through :D and I figure the name would look good if it hangs from the top
of the screen (like there is a metal thing holding it on the background)
when I get webspace I'll post a few pics...
I AM COOL,

yeah but ***alt*** what's that all about :???:
I thought that was a windows keyboard... (not macintosh)

Alt == option. The key has both labels on newer keyboards, including the Apple Pro Keyboard. That said, I do prefer calling it option, myself...

I really wish mac would have started with alt...
I really had a hard time when I was working with my first windows...
I will add Gigiapede to my website soon...

My main complaint with mac keyboards is actually the silly functions assigned to home & end. I dislike their standard behavior so much that I created a custom DefaultKeyBinding.dict so they do what they are supposed to  !

If you only used Macs, this may be the expected behavior, but for text editing, having to press Command+left/right is too much hassle for me. I hope someday Apple makes this an option in the System Preferences "Keyboard" panel...
I remember the first time I used a Mac (System 7.5): no forward delete? NO FORWARD DELETE? WTF!!!!!!!
Luckily they fixed that, the Home & End keys are still "wrong", but at least I can change their function without resorting to hacks or third party utilities (although a simple check box in the Keyboard panel would have been better).
As for "web power", I use Cocoa Gestures (http://www.bitart.com/CocoaGestures.html) , so I don't even need the keyboard when browsing ;)

Ok, Now with the game.
I have created a cursor and a main menu with a good interface.
YO CARLOS,
Do you have those sprites???
I need them for the main menu.
I'm going to surround the text in centipede heads for better looks. :)
other than thinking alot about Udev 2005 :D
I've thought about the sound effects. ;)

I'm currently working on the calculations for the Gameplay.
I'm thinking of a 10x30 grid. but that seems to be to thin so I'm more than likely going to go with
20x30.
I've also got a very good way to calculate. :)
BinarySpike
2004.12.29, 03:56 PM
Still working on the view I'm going to need.
I am using a 20x30 board. (unless that's to small/big)
I have no main menu graphics but that will change soon unless I get my Centipedes head graphic,
then I'm going to work extra hard on the main menu (with some heads rolling around) :)

I've decided to change the main menu to this:
(note: only a PhotoShop picture) (not really in the current version)
I'll learning that OpenGL object click thing next. (so I can add mouse support) :)
I also think I'll do a 3D version of the fighter (not textured quad) in OpenGL. :D
I shouldn't be through before the end of this year.
(it still has a few hours left... this year)
I'll see you all next year

Are you sure you need that? There may be easier ways, depending on what you need...
