Writing games for mobiles?

Does anyone know if it's possible to write games for mobile-phones with the mac? If yes, how? What is needed, which language (java?), where to find detailed instructions and so on. Does anyone have experience with that?

I used to know a sound artist that did this (sound only).

J2ME is the language/API, not sure whether Xcode supports this straight, or whether another compiler is needed (Eclipse?)
