I haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet, but its good to see people developing in Metal still.

I like the clean graphics. But maybe you could add random bits of seaweed or swimming fish for ambience? Also it's kind of annoying that I can't launch it from the disk image. You can make your dmg writable from Disk Copy and then compress it afterwards from the command line with gzip.

It seems a little strange that hitting the cave doesn't slow the player down at all.

What does that mean? Well, as far as I can tell, that means the first person to press right (to move forward, add assuming they hold forward down) will win the race.

METAL Basic strikes again, polluting the mind of yet another innocent coder... well, maybe not, but the game is utterly unplayably slow on your minimum suggested spec.

I saw the game on macupdate and downloaded it yesterday. :)

My machine is:

400MHz Sawtooth model
1GB plus of RAM
Radeon graphic card

I'm using the DVI output to connect to a flat screen monitor. And there, I think lies the problem when I ran the game. It started, I saw the typical METAL console and then my screen went black. I was able to quit. I have a feeling the game was drawing to "another" screen. I'm not sure if this is due to METAL. I have heard of this problem from another Judge from the 21-Days Later: Vectorized entry. Lucky for him (and the dev) he had a second monitor (CRT) connected so he could play the game.

Anyways, my machine is low-end, but you might want to look into this issue and see if it can be fixed.

Cheers,

I recognize the Garage Band loops :)
@Derek: Hitting the cave does slow the player down. If you don't hit the cave at all, you can go reeeally fast.

PS: if this is a 21DL entry (I don't know if it is) AI is required, so you'd better work on that first. :) Actually, even if it isn't, work on AI first. 90% of people don't have a second person to play with or a second person who wants to play.

How about "@Derek"? That seems to make sense.

Well, I tried it a few times, and you weren't slowed down in the build I tried, sounds like that has changed though.

If player 1 hits a wall, both players are slowed down. If player 2 hits a wall, neither player is slowed down.

- Perhaps have a progress bar when loading levels?

- Please let me click through the logo to the title screen.

- Along with the seaweed and such, it would be cool to see some kind of water effect coming out of the back of the sub.

- Avoid the recognizable Garageband loops if possible. I used one in uDevGames and since then I've heard it in two other places already. :???: Definitely a weird feeling!

Um, yes... if this isn't fixed. There is no game.

Hi. Thanks for all of your feedback.

I made the following changes:
Crashing against a wall slows you down
Added a "Support Files" folder to organize assets
fixed player 2 speed issues
fixed sound playback on level 2 & 3
Added two computer subs
resized game to run in a 800x600 window

I put the game in a .sit file so that should resolve the read only problem with Disk Images and Metal Basic.

Much better.

More input:

- Is it me, or does player 2 seem to accelerate way faster than player 1?
- With the computer players you don't need the second player anymore. Perhaps have a 1 or 2 player choice at the title, and on 1 player display something else on the bottom of the screen. A graphic or a little display showing the relative positions of the subs?
- After three levels it goes back to the title screen, but won't start a new game.
- Show the times of the computer players when they finish

When I release the right arrow my sub stops. When I hit it again my sub then goes the same speed it was going when I pressed forward. Perhaps it will slowly slow down and not stop and perhaps it will be slow again once it stops - like when I hit a wall?

The other subs will 'warp' from time to time... when they appear to get stuck. On the last level they really freak out because it's so bouncy. Perhaps your AI?

After I quit on my 12' PowerBook (866, 768 Ram, 10.3.7) my system is barely usable for almost a minute. Super pinwheel of doom when doing anything.

Hello all. I'm new here. :)

Sorry for digging up an old thread.

I found this game on some site or other, but every single website that has it available for download redirects to the original Dover Studios download, which is no longer active.

I would greatly, GREATLY appreciate it if someone could upload the newest version of this game (or, I suppose, the older one) to the internet somewhere. I can't offer much in return except for eternal gratitude and a Demonoid invite. ;)

I don't really mind how this game plays, I just think the premise seems really cool.

Thankyou very much guys.

Cheers,
Franklint
