Wow, only a couple days left to go till "Accelerated" is done. Anyway, here's the current state of my entry:
http://web.newsguy.com/malarkey/software/Neko_Type-R.zip
I'm still working on it but I just wanted to get it out there for some quick testing before the deadline. How's everyone else's entries?
Quick game-play rundown:
You control cats #1-3. Get them to run by typing in the word underneath them (but don't take too long). Beat the computer team to the finish line to run the next race (difficulty goes up with each race).

quite cool, but I suspect the initial difficulty might be too hard for many people :)

Well, then those people should learn how to type faster. :D Well, I guess I can slow down the computer a little bit then...
Also, I forgot to mention that the cat images are from the program Neko, which basically animated a little cat running around a window (or desktop, depending on which version you were running) following your mouse. As far as I can tell, the original source (and images, I assume) are in the public domain.

I don't suppose there's any easy way to make this work with 10.2?

Doh! Is key-value coding not available under 10.2? *checkes docs* Hm. Well, I guess they aren't... Well, there's an easy way to fix it and it's that I write getters/setters for all the fields where I'm using key-value coding. If I get a little bit of time before the contest deadline, I'll do that (since the contest requires only 10.3 compatibility).

Yes, maybe ramp up the difficulty level, or let the level finish faster :)

I got to race 6. It might be interesting for the program to tell you how many WPM you are typing at, like most typing games do. I didn't feel compelled to play again, though. A high score might make it more enticing, for example, you got to race X and then you got a certain % complete before losing.

I didn't realize there was more than one cat to type at first! sadly, I lost as two of my cats were just sitting there.

Seconding the request for displayed WPM. The computer's WPM as well, so I know what I'm up against.
Also, this would benefit greatly from difficulty levels. And maybe explosions.

and zombie cats. ;)

Sound would be rewarding. Also, what would happen if you had a multi race championship and you get different points for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (for each cat?) There might be some strategy in making certain cats win over and over to stack up points and maybe you jam them up with a big word occasionally. Could be lots of fun.
The typing part works flawlessly. Very cool.

Okay: if you put in exploding zombie cats, I will buy a new mac so that I can play this game.

New version uploaded:
- added intro screen
- added WPM display
- added powerups and powerdowns
Uh, and a whole lotta other work but it's now bedtime for me. Hopefully I can start putting in some sound effects tomorrow and hopefully a menu to adjust the initial difficulty.

Works fine for me. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do at first. So perhaps an intro screen that explains that you need to 'type words!' for people who don't read the "read me". And also to know that I was racing three cats, that I wasn't expecting. I was trying to figure out why the other cats didn't go anywhere.

Whew. Finally uploaded the final version for the contest:

Now all I gotta do is clean up the source code a bit. I don't think I've ever written that much code without commenting.
