What's the other audio lib? I know someone (name escapes me at the moment) released SqueakLib a month or two ago.
Edit: It was aarku: http://www.idevgames.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8603

I'd say it's a split between OpenAL and fMod. They are tools, for different purposes. :) OpenAL is great for doing simple sound rendering in 3-space, while fMod is my library of choice for anything full-scaled.

By far FMOD is better than OpenAL. The API isn't as limitted and the license is hardly restrictive... I don't even see how there is a competition.

Hmm... who hacked this poll?
SqueakLib 8274 99.82%

[EDIT: Also, I'm I really supposed to be able to see who voted what?]

It seems lie fmod and openal are the way to go. can fmod have '3-D" sounds? I guess I can't see any reason why to do fmod over openAL...

..can fmod have '3-D" sounds?Yes, it can, and personally I find implementing 3D audio in FMOD to be much easier than OpenAL. The FMOD API on a whole is just way simpler to grasp IMHO.

how is the the LGPL restrictive over the "pay $2000 to use in a commercial product" license? well yeah, if your game is selling good enough then fmod is probably a good choice, especially if you need OGG support or whatever.

I'm a cheapskate, so I voted for OpenAL :)
Also, it ships with Tiger, so it has Apple's official seal of approval ;)

I'm pretty sure OpenAL will do OggVorbis. This is what a quick Google search turned up:

I tried both of them out, and loved fmod. that is the lib of all libs :p

I hate to burst your bubble, but FMod has costs too (http://www.fmod.org/fmodlicense.html).
Indies only have to pay $100, it seems :)

Way to read. If I wasn't entirely clear, I'll try again. Sharewear licenses cost $100. If your game is truly commercial, chances are you have the cash to spare. And don't forget that for freeware, it's free. As in, no cost.
And honestly, FMOD beats just about all in performance.
