Time to sell my old PowerMac G4 dual 867. It's a decent development machine (my last two iDevGames entries were developed on it) so I figured I'd try selling it to someone at iDG before resorting to eBay.

This configuration seems to be selling for around $700-$750 lately on eBay. I estimate that eBay and Paypal would charge me about $40.50 for the privilege of selling there (assuming the buyer pays via Paypal.) So I'll offer it for $675 + shipping, and I'll send iDG a $25 donation as well if someone here buys it at that price.

Here are the specs:
PowerMac G4 dual 867 MHz "mirror door"
Combo drive (DVD, CD-R/RW)
Original 256 M RAM + additional 512 M (768 total)
Original video card GeForce 4mx
Original 60 GB hard drive + additional 80 GB internal hard drive (2 bays still free!)
Original Pro keyboard and mouse
All original CDs, manuals. Original packaging.
If desired I'll include iLife '04 and my boxed copy of Panther, no charge.

In some ways this model was a sweet spot in the Macintosh lineup. It has a place for a 2nd optical drive, which very few Macs ever had, plus 4 internal drive bays total. Compare to the G5's which are back to 1 optical bay and 2 drive bays.
It also can boot to OS9. This was one of the noisier PowerMacs Apple made but they released a quieter fan upgrade which I installed.

I can either restore it to it's original state (Jaguar), or install Panther for you.

More information can be found in the owner's manual, downloadable here:

Questions welcome. I'm a longtime iDG member, and I used to write regularly for Inside Mac Games, so maybe that's a little better than buying off some random eBay member.

p.s. I don't know if anyone remembers the annoying crash that occasionally occurred when loading multiplayer levels in Jedi Knight 2... Well this Mac I'm selling is the one where the problem was finally reproduced in a repeatable way, which led to a patch being released! Yes- YOU can own this piece of Mac gaming history! :p

Well I've been swamped at work and exhausted at home; I keep putting off selling my old Mac. The market price on eBay has dropped significantly over the last month, so I'll lower my asking price.

Just this last week this model seems to have sold for as low as $620 (granted, no extras came with it, but still...) Of course they all come in different configurations so it's hard to compare them directly. But I probably won't be getting $700 for mine any more, and I'd really rather sell it *soon* to someone here, than on eBay whenever I finally get around to it.

I'm now asking $600 + shipping, for the Mac and everything it came with, plus the extra RAM & HD, plus iLife '04 and OS X Panther. I'd also make the aforementioned donation to iDevGames.

If you are even considering it please drop me a line soon. I'm already offering it to one other person I know, and soon it's off to eBay or possibly a local school for the tax deduction. My wife has let me know that she is getting tired of having it taking up floor space. :-)

Questions welcome. Post them here or email me:

Wow, that would be a nice deal if I were looking.

You're not Jonathan Steff from MacWorld, are you? He's getting rid of his dual 867, as I read today: http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/editors/2005/06/intelwaiting/index.php
(at least, he's getting a G5... and I'm assuming ditching the G4)

Yeah, I noticed that he was getting rid of the same model, too. Purely a coincidence though.
