Hi,

I am looking for a Mac OS-X coder who would port an old 3D game I am currently maintaining for the Windows platform. The game is Descent, and you can take a look at it's current status here (http://www.brockart.de/descent/d2x.html).

My version (D2X-W32) is based on D2X, a more general cross-platform version using SDL and OpenGL for the graphics. As D2X wasn't really maintained by anybody any more, I decided to fix and improve it myself about a year ago. D2X-W32 already contains Mac-specific code, so a port would rather be to look through it, fix it, and get the program to run (again) on Mac OS X.

Though there is another D2X port to Mac OS X floating around, that port lacks many of the features my version has, still contains some nasty flaws and currently doesn't support networking.

The Mac Descent community is surprisingly big (over 1000 users), and your only reward would be their gratitude. :)

I'll toss my gratitude in there, and maybe even five bucks as a donated registration fee if you port it extra-well :)

I loved that game, but it doesn't run anymore on my G4 (not even booted into OS 9  )

Descent used to make me physically nauseous.

I'd love to be able to throw up in X.

I played Descent on Tiger just the other day... I think it was this version: http://icculus.org/d2x/

The list of unsupported stuff is quite large though.

I loved Decent 3, I hope they make that open source..

Though comments are welcome, yours weren't exactly what I was looking for ... :p

D2X-W32 has been ported to both Mac OS X and Linux and now goes by the name D2X-XL to reflect the broader scope and rich feature set of the project. Stop by at http://www.descent2.de to get the details.

Here's a few screenshots (click on the thumbnails for larger images):
