In this thread, a few of us have talked about the possibility of having a 3-week mini contest. Basically, I need to tell Carlos how much interest we have so we can decide whether or not to go for it.
The themes we have decided on:
Tech Demo - Physics, AI, Pathfinding, Parallax Scrolling, something to show off cool tech stuff(Not really a game making contest)
Time/Space Manipulation - Make a game with that theme.

For the Tech Demo: Do I have to release the source to my whole game, or just the effects I used?

I think the effects should be fine... So far it doesn't look as though there's a whole lot of interest.
