2D animation technology to use

I'm going to port an app to iPhone/iPod which uses native output to the screen (i.e. an array of pixels are copied to the framebuffer).
What is the easiest and the fast (from the p.o.v. of performance) way to do the port?
OpenGL ES textures?
Quartz 2D?
Please give me some links to start with?
